Everyone who reads mysteries/thrillers know Harlan Coben, who is one of the best writers of this genre. I’ve just read Missing You, which is of course a good read and is based on an interesting premise.
Coben suggests the problems that could arise from combining two givens of modern life, identity theft and the fact that anything posted on the internet is forever. Suppose you sign up for Facebook or some other social site and then change your mind, get tired of it, or neglect it for any reason. What might an unscrupulous criminal be able to do with the online identity you created and abandoned? Coben’s answer – something really scary.
In Missing You an NYPD detective apparently runs across her ex-fiance on an internet dating site. And the plot thickens.
